Spotlight on preventing child sexual exploitation

Chelsea’s Choice – a powerful theatre-style production aimed at raising awareness of child sexual exploitation – is coming to the High Peak this week. Delivered by AlterEgo, the production throws a spotlight on how young people, boys and girls, can be groomed by adults for the purpose of sexual exploitation. High Peak Borough Council, as part of the Community Safety Partnership, has organised a preview performance in Buxton on Thursday 10 July and anyone concerned about child safety is invited to attend. Glossop schools can book performances for the next school year.

Councillor Anthony McKeown, executive member for community services at the Council and Chair of the Community Safety Partnership, said: “This is a hard-hitting and emotional production as befits the issues relating to the exploitation of young people and how we can all act to recognise and stop it.
“It’s an issue that is very much on the national agenda with impacts for all communities and I hope that those who attend these performances better understand the circumstances that can lead to exploitation so we can work together to prevent it and protect young people across the High Peak.”
Preventing exploitation is a priority for Derbyshire’s Safeguarding Children Board and the production will be touring schools across the county from September.
This hour-long preview session is taking place in the Dome on Devonshire Road, Buxton on Thursday 10 July at 10am.
