Witnesses sought to Whitfield "large sword" incident

Officers are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Glossop on New Year’s Day. At about 9.40am a man allegedly threatened another on Ebenezer Street in the town, while armed with a large sword. The threatened man walked off towards Freetown and has not been traced.  Police would like him to contact them. They are also trying to trace several people who were in the area at the time.  Two men, thought to be in their early 60s, are likely to have seen something as they were on the street.  Eight other men and women spoke to the suspect to encourage him to go inside.  Officers are urging them to come forward. A 35-year-old man was arrested and questioned in connection with the incident and later released on police bail.

Anyone who can help the investigation should contact PC Andy Prince on 101, quoting crime reference 173/16, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
